Annual Home Winemaker Competition

The Annual Home Winemaker’s Competition is open to members of the Placer County Wine & Grape Association, and home winemakers in our region. Entries are limited to wines produced by amateur winemakers. An amateur is considered 1) a person who does not work in a professional wine-producing capacity, or 2) a person who is not an owner of a commercial winery.

Preparing for Harvest

On June 14th, we hosted an education session devoted to addressing how best to create your own wine style in practice and through the choice of fermentation yeast.  We were joined by a representative from Scott Labs

Oak & Barrel Alternatives

Wednesday, April 12th we addressed the chemistry, innovations and options for leveraging oak in winemaking.  This session was presented by experts from StaVin “The world’s leading supplier of highest quality toasted oak products.”  Below is a link to their presentation.

Wine Filtration

Wednesday, March 13th we hosted an education session all about various methods, benefits and risks of wine filtration.  We had a guest speaker from Gusmer Industries present on the topic.  Below is a link to their presentation.

Winemaking 101

On August 14th, we hosted an education session, led by board member Mike Orton, on how to get started making wine.  This presentation covered all the topic necessary to get started, as well as tips for experienced winemakers.
